Black and White

Genre: Police, mystery, actions, brotherhood, romance, comedy

Pi Zi and Ying Xiong are two cops who are as different as day and night. One does nothing except for drinking coffee and living a luxurious lifestyle while waiting for information from dubious sources to crack his cases. Another believes law and justice are the pillars of society and is constantly on the street catching criminals… a little overzealously for his superior’s liking. When a case brought these two top crime solvers together, sparks flied and a little light peeked into this dark city where the nation’s President is on friendly terms with the local triad and twins kill people while drinking milkshake.

I have a hard time trying to decide whether this is a 3.5 or 4 out of 5 drama. The linkages the drama tries to show and shift focus from 1 suspect to another is very good. Many strong casts, though the female leads are newbies(Ivy chen and Janine Chang). So acting wise, the shortfall can be fixed by the veteran casts. The pace is pretty fast, with more casts added in as the drama proceeds. Ending wise, especially episode 23, there is some random good policewoman who showed up alas, got killed. Also, the Baddies that showed their faces got killed, but not all, like those in the helicopter and the hamburger girl. It’s as though there’s going to be a subsequent drama to follow up. But this is not the case. Romance wise the relationship is too complicated. Triangle love is already so complex and this show seemed to me is playing hexagon love relationship. Plus the plastic surgery of Vic Zhou’s character, is too ridiculous. How can the person not checked the DNA in the process of fixing his face? And then later on says it’s a mix up. Even Vic in his character cannot accept this, so am I. The only credit I can give is the complexity of the twists in the drama, which also seemed to hinder it as not only the plot is complex, the relationship is also complex. Actions seeking drama lovers will love this show. Maybe another small credit is the installation of humour here and there. Now I can reach my conclusion, 3.5/5.
